#1 Love the hand that feeds you – it may not be attached to a supermodel or a millionaire, but it loves you enough to take care of you
#2 Life is full of manure – you can get prissy about it or you can slog through it
#3 There is such a thing as too many treats – if you overindulge, you will puke on the carpet and be very sorry
#4 Simple joys (like a walk on a spring day, a toy, or a new sock) should be appreciated
#5 No one should eat your food or get in your space – there’s no shame in being a little selfish sometimes
#6 There is often someone waiting to pounce on you and make life difficult – you can either hide from the world or embrace the game and play chase
#7 It’s ok to get fat in the wintertime
#8 Forgive and forget quickly – there is nothing to be gained by holding a grudge
#9 Always be glad to see the people you love – a wag of the tail makes them feel as good as you do!
#10 There is no such thing as too many kisses
#11 Naps should be part of your daily routine
#12 Sometimes you have to do things you don’t like (go to the vet, be ridden, go for a walk in the snow, get your toenails trimmed, etc.) but the easier you take it, the quicker it will be finished
#13 Trust your gut instinct about others – Mother Nature gave us those natural barometers for a reason
#14 If you play with dirty creatures, you will get fleas [to my soon-to-be-ex-husband, you should take note]
#15 Loyalty is a basic part of a relationship
#16 Sometimes you have to stop and sniff the flowers, grass, trees, etc. – just don’t eat the bumblebees!
#17 It’s always a good idea to have an escape plan
#18 The grass isn’t always greener on the other side of the screen door
#19 You will sometimes encounter mean, nasty creatures – you can choose to fight them or ignore them – both require courage and you have to pick your battles
#20 Never let people put you down just because you aren’t a fancy show dog or an expensive Thoroughbred
#21 It’s ok to yowl when you’re in pain – there’s no shame in expressing yourself
#22 Don’t worry if you’re left alone – someone will come along sooner or later to take care of you
#23 Remember who gives you kisses and who slaps you – and never let the same person mistreat you twice (bite them if you have to)
#24 You must drink water every day, even if you have to get it out of the toilet
#25 It doesn’t matter what color, species, or breed your friends are – you will always love them and they will always be there for you
They shouldn’t call it dog whispering, they should call it dog listening. Because if you listen to your pets, you can learn a lot about life that you couldn’t learn in a classroom or a library or anywhere else. I have learned a lot from my pets and I still am.
I love this post! Indeed, we can learn so much about life from our beloved pets. Take it easy on yourself! If all else fails, just take a nap. 🙂
